On October 26, 2026, the Institute of Education, Heritage and Tourism (IETT) continued its field internship with young people in the area, as part of the project to empower the Zadrima community in providing tourism services and interpreting cultural heritage.
The first stop was the Dejës (Danjës) Castle, a testament to the area's medieval history, linked to the strategic importance of this region and the political rivalries of the 14th–15th centuries.
The journey continued towards the island of Shurdhahu, where the ruins of the medieval city of Sarda, an important historical and religious center of northern Albania, are preserved. The fortifications and traces of churches testify to the archaeological values of this settlement, today surrounded by the waters of Lake Vau i Dejës.
The internship also included the Zefi Tower Agrotourism in Hajmel and the hostel "N'fjetore te Mjedrat e Danjës", where the young people were introduced to the opportunities offered by family hospitality, gastronomy and local enterprises for the development of rural tourism.
Heritage, nature and local traditions constitute an important potential for the creation of authentic and sustainable tourist itineraries, where the community plays an active role in presenting the values of the area.
The project "Empowering the Zadrima Community in the Provision of Tourism Services and Interpretation of Cultural Heritage" is funded by the Albanian Besa Capital Foundation and implemented by IETT Albania.
